Sewing Machine & Serger Covers

Part of my stash reduction project, I made those sewing machine and serger covers. Here is the pattern:

Quilt

Here it is...the quilted top cover...
It's been a few months now since we started protecting (against the cats) the top of the bookcase with old pieces of fabric. I finally got something nice done. This is part of my fabric stash reduction. The top of the book case is 14" X 75". I used quilted cotton for the quilted pattern, the back and the border. I used cotton flannel for the batting. I did not want it too bulky, I just needed something to protect the wood against cat's nails.

Green Bags

Since my stash is getting quite big, I decided to make some shopping bags to use some of my fabrics. I made my own pattern. Here are a few images and to read the full review, please, visit
The pattern is a lined bag for shopping. The intent was not for grocery but for all the other shopping as I found our reusable grocery bags were a little too big for CDs, books, etc...

Cut Pieces

I first assembled some trims together for the decorative pocket. And also the patch pocket was lined for more strength with trims from the twill.

Then I sewed the pocket to its lining, right sides together but leaving some of it unstitched so I could get the right side out.

Applied Pocket

For the bottom of the bags, I wanted about 1-1/2" to 2" width. With 1/2" seam allowance, I needed to cut out 1" square at the bottom of the twill and the lining.

Then I sewed the bottom and pressed it open (twill and lining separately).

I measured 3" from the bottom side up and sewed it (twill and lining twill and lining separately).

Leaving the square unsewn then I opened it and sewed it together.

I aligned the rest of the sides of the twill and the lining together then sewed.
Bag sides sewn together with the lining:

Voila, the bag inside out does not show any seam.

I measured and marked the middle of each side of the bag. Then from the middle, I measured 1-3/8" each side to place the handles.

I sewed the band of fabric, pressed the seam open and pressed it folded in half.

My Stash of Fabric

I figured I should know how much fabric I have and how much I should use before I buy any more. I spent some time measuring everything and document it in a spreadsheet. Oh God I was scared...I counted 301.75 lnyds!!!! I really to use some of it before buying any more...

Brazilian Bracelets

I started to make Brazilian bracelets when I was about ten years old. It has been a while since the last time I made one. On the picture are a few from the one I made. This is fun to make and design but unfortunately, very time consuming.
