Green Bags

Since my stash is getting quite big, I decided to make some shopping bags to use some of my fabrics. I made my own pattern. Here are a few images and to read the full review, please, visit
The pattern is a lined bag for shopping. The intent was not for grocery but for all the other shopping as I found our reusable grocery bags were a little too big for CDs, books, etc...

Cut Pieces

I first assembled some trims together for the decorative pocket. And also the patch pocket was lined for more strength with trims from the twill.

Then I sewed the pocket to its lining, right sides together but leaving some of it unstitched so I could get the right side out.

Applied Pocket

For the bottom of the bags, I wanted about 1-1/2" to 2" width. With 1/2" seam allowance, I needed to cut out 1" square at the bottom of the twill and the lining.

Then I sewed the bottom and pressed it open (twill and lining separately).

I measured 3" from the bottom side up and sewed it (twill and lining twill and lining separately).

Leaving the square unsewn then I opened it and sewed it together.


I aligned the rest of the sides of the twill and the lining together then sewed.

Voila, the bag inside out does not show any seam.


I measured and marked the middle of each side of the bag. Then from the middle, I measured 1-3/8" each side to place the handles.


I sewed the band of fabric, pressed the seam open and pressed it folded in half.
